During Fashion Week SS2020, Points (in Beauty) Were Made!

And just like that, summer’s end is but a few days away.

September, one of my favorite months of the year, marks the decline (or ascent), into autumn. For many companies and organizations, it marks a new fiscal year. For fashion lovers, however, it is one of the most (if not the most) months. September issues of Vogue are internationally the largest, and considered the most important, as they mark the start of a new season/fashion year. In addition, both September and February are the worldwide months of Fashion Weeks, where designers around the world showcase their designs and concepts for the coming season, and what they think we should wear.

As I write this article, we are still in the midst of “Fashion Month’s”–– London Fashion Week, which comes directly after and partly overlaps New York Fashion Week. With two more weeks to go (Milan Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week), I’m already inundated. As I browse all the beautiful designs, I also take care to check out the different ways these artists use a model’s beauty to accent their collections. Some may have all the models have a more uniform look, while others give each a different vibe, but along a certain theme. Thus far, this season has definitely had a lot of variety, but I’ve also noticed a few beauty trends across a variety of collections. Maybe you have too! Let’s take a look at a few “hints” the beauty and fashion industry are trying to give us for next Spring and what everyone will probably be trying to replicate. Even if they aren’t, these looks can give us a bit of inspiration for various events and moments in life that call for them.

TREND #1 : BARELY THERE MAKEUP

Granted, the trend of natural looking makeup isn’t anything new. Most of us try to keep it lowkey when we go to our jobs and day to day events. However, what I found interesting about these particular looks is, in addition to being paired with very effortless, no fuss hair, the makeup was so understated that it it looked like maybe just one product was used. In years past, the natural look might contain some contour, a bit of blush, an eyelash even - but in this year’s iteration, designers like Michael Kors, Coach, Proenza Schouler, Oscar de la Renta and Belstaff (to name a few), made some great arguments for the less is more concept.

TREND #2: GLITTER EYES/TEARS

Although glitter has been around forever, thanks to a look Zendaya rocked in her show Euphoria, the trend of packing glitter over, around and in particular, under the eyes has seeped into the mainstream and grabbed everyone’s attention. For the designer who is especially conscious of what’s going on in pop culture, and has his “ear to the ground,” he will incorporate budding trends into his own showcase, ensuring the attention and obsession of the masses. Quite a few designers - to include Marc Jacobs did that this year, by complementing their own creations with models whose eyes were sprinkled and surrounded in fairy dust. To be honest, as NSFW this look is, I’m definitely trying this look at any other place I can get away with it. It just makes me feel so fuzzy inside!

TREND #3 - DEEP DARK LIPS

With the onset fall, we all usually retire our brighter lip colors, or at least save them for an especially festive occasion. Something about the cooler weather, the trees changing colors and the cozy sweaters makes us instantly pull out our burgundies and maroons. But on the runway this season, designers like Matthew Adams Dolan (Rihanna’s fave), Marques’ Almeida, and Prabal Gurung forecast darker than dark, blackened lip colors- not for fall - but for next spring! And yet everyone in these looks manages to still look ultra feminine and pretty. I personally love the dichotomy of a soft element with a hardened edge thrown in there, and this a surefire way to do it, without wrapping yourself in chains and hardware. Unless you want to.

Have you noticed any other trends on the runways so far that you’re dying to try? Do you plan to try any of these? Let us know below.
